October 3, 2003

For the first time in the History of Northwest Sports & Entertainment Inc. the Women’s Exhibition team will include a member from an active WNBA roster. Erin Thorn from the New York Liberty will be making her debut this season in all division 1 games for the women’s program.

Erin, a 5-10 guard with the Liberty, finished her first WNBA season this past August after being the 17th overall pick in the 2003 WNBA draft from Brigham Young University.

At BYU, Erin averaged 18.8 ppg and 4.2 rpg while starting all 31 game for the cougars in the 2002-2003 season. A sharp shooter, Erin holds the career record for three-point buckets (393), while her 2,061 career points put her fourth all-time in scoring at BYU. In the 2002 campaign Erin also earned the honor of Mountain West Conference Player of the Year while leading the cougars at the MWC Championships with 60 points in three games. She was a three time MWC All-conference performer while leading her teams in points, assists, and steals.

Erin will be joining fellow BYU teammate Melanie Pearson on this year’s squad. The season is set to begin November 1st at the University of Cincinatti. Erin is only the second player Northwest Sports Women’s History to have professional experience. Jennifer Ruff-Adams played two years in the now defunct ABL. Jennifer is sitting this season out with the upcoming birth of her second child this winter.
